2 Prepare the topping by cutting the butter into the flour, then adding the other ingredients and mixing well. Set aside
3 Prepare the filling by cutting the apples and pears into pieces about ½ in. thick. Pour into a bowl and add the vanilla, cinnamon, and flour. Toss. Sprinkle with sugar.
4 Pour the filling into an 8 x 8 in. baking pan. Cover with the nut topping. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes or until the topping is golden and the filling bubbles. Serve cool.
